Rafael Caro Quintero Capture: How Was Rafael Caro Quintero Arrested?

Rafael Caro Quintero, the notorious drug lord from Mexico was arrested in Mexico on July 15, 2022.

Caro Quintero was apprehended after a search dog named “Max” discovered him hiding in the brush in the town of San Simon in Sinaloa state during a joint navy-Attorney General’s Office operation, according to a navy statement.

The location was in the mountains near Sinaloa’s northern border state of Chihuahua.

Caro Quintero was arrested around midday, according to Mexico’s national arrest registry. There were two pending arrest warrants for him, as well as a US government extradition request.

According to a statement issued by Mexico’s Attorney General’s Office late Friday, July 15, Caro Quintero was arrested for extradition and would be held at the maximum security Altiplano prison about 50 miles west of Mexico City.

He was on the FBI’s most wanted list, and the State Department’s Narcotics Rewards Program offered a $20 million reward for his capture. In 2018, he was added to the FBI’s top ten most wanted list.
