Raeph Ballantyne Obituary

Raeph Ballantyne was a senior broadcast camera journalist on the BBC News team

Ballantyne began his BBC career as a location engineer in the newsgathering operations team 15 years ago.

He also spent time on the camera team before moving on to the social team, where he focused on stories about crime, justice, communities, social affairs, religion, and poverty.

His filmography includes the speech impediment documentary I Can’t Say My Name: Stammering in the Spotlight, documentaries about fuel poverty in the Hebrides, the housing crisis in Cornwall, and Ukrainian refugees in Calais

He also worked on a documentary about policing called Hartlepool: the town where ‘police don’t come out.’

Raeph Ballantyne passed away following some time in the hospital on October 10, 2022. Ballantyne’s former colleagues took to the internet to share some of their fond memories and some of his career highlights.
