Rachael Mary Skelton, a 30-year-old singer, was crushed to death on June 23, 2020, when an elderly woman accidentally hit the accelerator instead of the brake.

Rachel was at her grandmother Joy Sandell’s house painting furniture for her new home when the tragedy occurred.
Ms Buckett was leaving the home after popping over to see Rachael’s grandmother, who she’d known since 1967, for a cup of tea.

As Joan Daphne stepped on the accelerator, the car accelerated forward and collided with Rachael, who was crouching at the time. She was crushed between the front of the car and a fence and died from a head injury less than an hour later.

Hampshire Police tried to charge Buckett with gross negligence manslaughter and death by careless driving. The car also hit Rachael’s mother before coming to a stop against a fence.
Ms Buckett, who uses two hearing aids and a walking stick to get around, has given up her driver’s licence.

Rachel had no children. She was, however, in a four-year relationship with Richard Morris whom she was planning on moving in with before her death.
