Preliminary Autopsy Results Indicate Riley Strain’s Death Was Accidental

The tragic death of Riley Strain, a Missouri college student, is believed to be “accidental,” according to preliminary findings from the Metro Nashville Police Department.

MNPD spokesperson Kris Mumford informed The Tennessean that while toxicology results are still pending, there are no indications of foul play in Strain’s death.

“Detectives attended the autopsy examination,” Mumford stated. “It continues to appear accidental.”

However, the final autopsy report will only be concluded once all necessary testing has been completed.

Strain, 22, was found deceased early Friday morning, March 22, 2024, approximately eight miles away from his last known location in downtown Nashville. His discovery marked the end of a two-week search for the missing student.

Following the news of Strain’s passing, around 50 individuals gathered for a candlelight vigil to honor his memory on Friday night.

During a press conference held on Friday, Strain’s parents expressed their gratitude for the community’s efforts in locating their son.

“I just ask that you mommas out there hug your babies tight tonight, please,” pleaded Strain’s mother, Michelle Whiteid. “Please for me. Hug your babies tight tonight.”

As authorities continue their investigation into the circumstances surrounding Riley Strain’s untimely death, his loved ones and the community mourn the loss of a cherished young life.
