Republican Senator Ted Cruz of Texas faced fierce criticism for saying he was praying for the city of Uvalde after Salvador Ramos shot and killed 19 children and two adults at a school in the state.

In a tweet Cruz said;
“Heidi & I are fervently lifting up in prayer the children and families in the horrific shooting in Uvalde,”
“We are in close contact with local officials, but the precise details are still unfolding. Thank you to heroic law enforcement & first responders for acting so swiftly.”

However, many have taken offence at Mr. Cruz’s “prayers” and have raised concerns about his opposition to legislation which can help curb gun violence.

Mr. Cruz has opposed the said legislation for years.

To make matters worse, Mr. Cruz defended gun rights following the mass shooting in his state.
While speaking to the BBC, Mr. Cruz said:
“Inevitably when there is a murder of this kind you see politicians try to politicise it, you see Democrats and a lot of other folks in the media whose immediate solution is to try to restrict the constitutional rights of law abiding citizens.”
“That doesn’t work, it’s not effective. It doesn’t prevent crime.”
While criticizing Mr. Cruz’s stance on gun control, Kurt Bardella, who advises the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, urged Mr. Cruz to “take your prayers and shove them up your ass.”
This comes after Mr. Cruz accepted $300k from the pro-gun crowd.
Ted Cruz received $300k from the pro-gun crowd so take your prayers and shove them up your ass. Your acceptance of this blood money tells us how much your prayers are worth. https://t.co/MMxQMwtAEv
