ESPN’s Adam Schefter broke the news, indicating that Peterson’s departure will provide the Steelers with much-needed salary cap relief to the tune of $6.85 million.

Peterson’s tenure with the Steelers began last year when he signed a two-year, $14 million contract after leaving the Minnesota Vikings.

However, his performance in Pittsburgh’s defensive unit failed to meet expectations, prompting the decision to part ways.

Despite making 17 appearances for the Steelers last season, Peterson’s on-field contributions fell short, recording only two interceptions, 11 pass defenses, and 42 combined tackles.

Advanced metrics revealed further challenges, with statistics from Pro Football Reference indicating a 59.4 completion percentage when targeted and a 91.5 opposing passer rating.

The emergence of rookie Joey Porter Jr., son of Steelers legend Joey Porter, also played a role in Peterson’s diminished role within the team.

In response to his departure from the Steelers, Peterson expressed gratitude for the opportunity to play for the storied franchise while expressing eagerness for the next chapter in his career.

As the NFL free agency period looms, speculation abounds regarding Peterson’s next destination. With his proven track record and veteran presence, numerous teams are likely to express interest in bolstering their secondary with his services.

As football enthusiasts eagerly await the start of the upcoming season, Peterson’s journey to a new team will undoubtedly remain a focal point of interest in the NFL landscape.
