Philip Michael Thomas is an American actor and musician best known for his portrayal of detective Ricardo Tubbs on the hit 1980s television series Miami Vice.

His first major roles were in Coonskin and Sparkle, both starring opposite Irene Cara.
Following his triumph in Miami Vice, he starred in a number of made-for-TV movies and advertising for telephone psychic services.
He was a spokesperson for the cell phone entertainment firm Nextones, and he also voiced the character Lance Vance in the computer games Grand Theft Auto: Vice City (2002) and Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories (2006).

For Seasons 1-2, Philip Michael Thomas was paid $25,000 (equal to $62,000 today) per episode. For seasons three through five, he was paid $50,000 per episode.
In other words, he made slightly more than $1 million for seasons 1 and 2, and $3.35 million for seasons 3 through 5.
That amounts to $4.45 million in pre-tax earnings for the whole length of the series prior to syndication. After adjusting for inflation, he made little under $10 million during the original run of the show.
