Phila Madlingozi was born on the 26th of October, 1989., to Ringo Madlingozi and Judith Maqanda.

Judith Maqanda
Phila’s mother, Judith, was from Port Elizabeth. She recently died after a long battle with cancer. She was buried in Eastern Cape last week.

Phila’s father, Ringo, is a South African musician and record producer born in 1964.
He is a member of the South African National Assembly.

He formed the band, ‘Peto’, several years ago. The band went ahead to win the Shell Road to Fame contest in 1986.
Ringo is also the band leader of the group Gecko Moon, which he formed with Alan Cameron, a fellow Peto member.
Ringo has also done a number of collaborations with well known bands such as the UB40, and is credited for the recording of Xhosa lyrics of “Cover Up”.
Ringo has on several occasions won the Best Male Artist in Southern Africa at the South African Music Awards (SAMA), the Kora Awards, and the African continent Awards.
