On May 23, 2024, rumors circulated that Fella Makafui was arrested for allegedly selling unregistered drugs at her shop in Mempeasem. However, speaking on Hitz FM, Dr. Amaning clarified that the council did not directly arrest her.
While he acknowledged that Fella Makafui was under investigation, Dr. Amaning emphasized that the Pharmacy Council is not an arresting body. He stated, “We don’t arrest people. We are not the police.”
The investigation stems from concerns over the sale of unapproved products, particularly on social media platforms, by unlicensed individuals or companies. Dr. Amaning referenced a previous operation at Accra Mall where influencers were arrested for similar offenses.

Highlighting the importance of regulation in such activities, Dr. Amaning warned of potential risks to public health without proper oversight. He urged the public not to patronize medicinal products from unlicensed sources and cautioned individuals involved in the sale of unapproved products to cease such practices.
Regarding Fella Makafui’s situation, she was reportedly released on bail following the alleged arrest. Confiscated items included various health teas and syrups marketed without proper authorization.
Fella Makafui’s management refuted claims of her arrest, stating that she was only invited to answer questions and cooperated fully with the investigation. They emphasized her compliance with regulations and provided details of her FDA-registered products.
