Orpo, 53, was up in a small town in southwest Finland and graduated from college with a degree in political science.

Since joining the legislature in 2007, he has served as a member of the National Coalition, and in 2016, he unsuccessfully challenged his predecessor, former prime minister Alexander Stubb, for the position of party leader.

Orpo, who is regarded as moderate and a skilled negotiator, has held several positions in the administration, including those of minister of agriculture and forestry from 2014 to 2015, interior minister from 2015 to 2016, and finance minister from 2016 to 2019.

The majority of Finland’s political spectrum praised him for how he handled the European migrant crisis in 2015 when the Nordic country faced a tenfold increase in refugee admissions.
As a self-described fiscal conservative, he seeks to reduce government expenditure on social programs and unemployment insurance in order to lower the budget deficit and create way for tax cuts intended to spur economic growth.

He is married with two kids. The names of his kids are not known.
