Petr Klima, a Czech professional ice hockey forward who played for the Detroit Red Wings, Edmonton Oilers, Tampa Bay Lightning, Los Angeles Kings, and Pittsburgh Penguins in the National Hockey League, died on May 4 at the age of 58.

He also spent two seasons in the Czech Extraliga with HC Litvinov, the Czech club where he began his career in 1981-82.

Klima, who was born on December 23, 1964, was drafted by the Red Wings in the fifth round (88th overall) of the 1983 NHL Entry Draft.

Klma spent four full seasons with the Wings (from 1985 to 1989) before being traded to the Oilers during the 1989-90 season.

Klima, who had been benched by Oilers coach John Muckler for much of the game, scored on his second overtime shift, slipping the puck past Bruins goaltender Andy Moog at 15:13 of the third extra period.

Klima died 11 days before the anniversary of his legendary goal.
