Nigerian authorities have earlier reported that February 13, 2021, will see the Lekki Toll Gate returning into the active business. The Lekki Toll Gate was locked after the Special Anti-Robbery Squad and Police Brutality protest. The protest saw many of the peaceful protesters succumbed to the military attacks while others sustained pernicious injuries.

The peaceful protesters opposed to the reopening of the Lekki Toll Gate and launched #OccupyLekkiTollGate. However, the Nigerian Police Force arrested and detained some including popular comedian, Mr Macaroni. After the protesters were arrested, Amnesty International Nigeria tweeted about it which got the attention of Rihanna.
