Paul Bernardo Parents: Meet Marilyn Bernardo, Kenneth Bernardo

Paul Bernardo was born on August 27, 1964, in Scarborough, Ontario, the third and legally youngest child of Kenneth Walter Bernardo and Marilyn Elizabeth Bernardo.

Kenneth Bernardo frequently sexually abused Paul’s older sister, Debra, in front of other family members, and was eventually charged with voyeurism and paedophilia crimes.

Due to depression and agoraphobia, his mother Marilyn Bernardo frequently withdrew from her family, eventually moving into the basement.

When Paul Bernardo was 16, he was informed by his mother in 1981, following a fight between his parents, that he was the result of an extramarital affair and that Kenneth was not his biological father.

Outraged, Bernardo began calling his mother “slut” and “whore,” to which she responded by calling him a “bastard from hell.”

Between 1987 and 1990, Paul Bernardo committed a series of rapes in Scarborough, Ontario, a Toronto suburb, before committing three murders with his wife Homolka, one of whom was Karla’s younger sister, Tammy Homolka.

Paul Bernardo is currently serving a life sentence with no possibility of parole for 25 years.
