Sir Patrick founded Cambridge Stud, a nursery that would reshape the bloodstock industry and bring unprecedented international attention to New Zealand, in 1976, from humble beginnings and with the determination of his wife Justine.

Sir Patrick Hogan and his wife Lady Hogan have been the successful owners of a number of top race horses such as Irish Chance, Katie Lee, Lashed and Smiling Like. In 2017 he sold Cambridge Stud to Brendan and Jo Lindsay.

After Hogan and his wife, Lady Justine, sold Cambridge Stud in 2017, they were worth $175 million, according to the National Business Review’s annual rich list, but their true value to New Zealand racing was inestimable.

Sir Patrick Hogan was named “the most interesting and influential figure in racing in the last 25 years” by racing journalist David McCarthy in 2007. Sir Patrick Hogan died in January 2023 at 83 after being ill for some time.
