Paolo Nol was born in Montreal on March 4, 1929, and spent most of his childhood in Gaspésie before returning to the city. In 1948, he won a radio competition at CKAC by performing a very convincing impersonation of French charm singer Tino Rossi.

The next year, he made his cabaret debut, taking up not only Rossi’s but also the “prince of operetta” Luis Mariano’s accomplishments. He does, however, use the occasion to slip into his singing tour, accompanying himself on the guitar with his tunes.

For several years, he was a member of Jean Grimaldi’s travelling troupe, which toured “French America” with his burlesque revues mixed with song numbers. During this time, he also released his first albums, with titles ranging from “Blue Flower Song” to “Odes to the Sea and Boats,” as well as “Christian Heritage.”
