Omowunmi Dada to Play Wole Soyinka’s Mother in ‘Funmilayo Ransome-Kuti’

Nollywood actress Omowunmi Dada has shared her insights on portraying Grace Eniola Soyinka, the mother of Nigerian playwright and novelist Wole Soyinka, in the new biopic film “Funmilayo Ransome-Kuti.”

Dada reflected on her role, expressing her thoughts on the character and the importance of the story for a broader audience. She also expressed her gratitude for the privilege of playing Soyinka’s mother.

“It is an honour to portray Grace Eniola Soyinka and to bring her story to audiences worldwide. She was not only a devoted mother, but also a fearless advocate for justice and equality. I am honoured to have the opportunity to embody her spirit and showcase her legacy to the world,” she said.

Her depiction of Soyinka’s mother delves deeper into her battle against systemic injustice. Dada portrays the intricacies of her character, illustrating her unwavering bravery, courage, and profound love and sacrifices for her family.

Soyinka’s mother and her aunt-in-law, Funmilayo Ransome-Kuti, founded the Abeokuta Women’s Union to protest taxes imposed by the Alake of Abeokuta.
