In an interview on Channel One TV’s Cituation Room, Ohene Ntow, former General Secretary of the NPP, revealed that the party’s leadership, including himself, strongly objected to Bawumia’s nomination, questioning the rationale behind considering an outsider for the role.
According to Ohene Ntow, President Akufo-Addo persuaded the party to embrace Bawumia, highlighting his economic proficiency and pledging to entrust him with managing the economy if elected.

Before the 2016 general elections, many people referred to Dr. Bawumia as the savior who would rescue the country from economic difficulties.
“The interesting thing about Bawumia’s eight years as Vice President is that, when I was the General Secretary and Akufo-Addo came as a candidate to propose Bawumia as running mate, we said ‘what are you talking about?’, the man is [not] a member of the party. And you are telling us that this whole big party, you can’t find a running mate? There was a fight at the Alisa Hotel,” he said.
