The Offinso Municipal Security Council (MUSEC) in the Ashanti Region has taken a decisive step to maintain peace and order in the region by issuing a ban against Dr. Kofi Koduah Sarpong, former boss of the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC), preventing him from presenting himself as the Paramount Chief of the Offinso Traditional Area.

This action was prompted by concerns raised over a viral social media video showing Dr. Sarpong receiving greetings from well-wishers who referred to him as the legitimate Offinsohene.

In response, the Offinso Traditional Council has moved swiftly to address the situation and prevent any potential escalation of tensions in the area.

Despite the contested succession process following the death of Offinsohene, Nana Wiafe Akenten III, Dr. Sarpong’s recent actions, including his reception of supporters under the pretext of a chief, have raised security concerns within the community.

Chairman of the Municipal Security Council, Kingsley Owusu-Appiah, emphasized the need to uphold the authority of the recognized chief, Nana Dwamena Akenten II, stating that Dr. Sarpong cannot assume the role of chief in Offinso.

Security measures have been put in place to enforce the ban, including the deployment of police personnel to both the old and new palace sites to restrict Dr. Sarpong’s access.

In light of these developments, members of the Offinso Traditional Council have expressed dissatisfaction with the police’s handling of the situation and called for the transfer of personnel perceived to have compromised security management.

Meanwhile, one of the royal families, Asona-Akonkodiase, has pledged allegiance to Nana Dwamena Akenten II, disowning the former queen mother for presenting an outsider as a successor, contrary to family expectations.

The Offinso Traditional Council remains committed to maintaining peace and stability in the region, and all necessary measures will be taken to uphold the authority of the recognized chief and prevent any further disruptions.
