Last week, during a campaign tour, Vice President Bawumia promised to address the issue of unpaid allowances after being confronted by a trainee.
He assured immediate action, stating that he would take the matter up with the finance minister to ensure prompt payment.
Following his announcement, the trainees anticipated the release of their allowances, but as of Monday, May 20, the payments have yet to materialize.
The umbrella body for the trainee nurses and midwives, the Coalition of Concerned Nurses and Midwives, released a statement expressing disappointment.

According to the coalition, despite the Vice President’s announcement over nineteen days ago, no payments have been made, nor has any information been provided on the disbursement process.
They emphasized that the delay in addressing the arrears is burdening the future healthcare professionals of the country.
Additionally, the coalition highlighted that the GHC 177 million announced by Dr. Bawumia is insufficient to cover the owed allowances.
They stated that the released amount only covers 11.5% of the total arrears, which they deem as woefully inadequate.
The Minister of Health, Bernard Okoe Boye, has reassured the trainees that the government is committed to settling the arrears.
He emphasized that unlike the previous administration, which abolished the payments entirely, the current government intends to fulfill its obligations to the trainees.
