Approximately 17 graduate nurses and midwives gathered at the entrance of the Kumasi Center for National Culture to voice their frustrations about being unemployed despite completing their education.

Despite the early morning rain affecting the turnout, the nurses proceeded with their protest, marching through the main streets of Kumasi under police escort.

Their route included Pampaso, Kumasi Central Prisons, Adum, and KMA, culminating at the Ashanti Regional Coordinating Council, where they presented a petition to the Ashanti regional minister.

During the protest, the nurses highlighted the dire situation of approximately 60,000 to 70,000 unemployed nurses and midwives awaiting employment opportunities. They expressed their disappointment with the government’s failure to address their plight.

Beatrice Kwateng Osei-Asare, the Economic Planning Officer at the Ashanti Regional Coordinating Council, received the petition on behalf of the absent Ashanti Regional Minister, Simon Osei-Mensah.

The unemployed graduate nurses and midwives have scheduled another demonstration in Accra on April 16, aiming to escalate their grievances against the government’s inaction regarding their employment.
