In a recent development in the Ashanti Region, Kennedy Agyapong, Member of Parliament for Assin North and prominent figure within the New Patriotic Party (NPP), faced a confrontational moment during his visit to the Kwabre East constituency.

A video circulating on social media captured a tense encounter where NPP members, evidently frustrated, voiced grievances over perceived neglect despite their longstanding support for the party.
Seated in his car, Agyapong listened as party supporters expressed their discontent.
“Since 1992, we have voted for the NPP but haven’t benefitted in any meaningful way,” one member lamented. Another echoed the sentiment, saying, “You are the very one that we want. We will die of hunger if you leave us behind, we will suffer.”

The dissatisfaction was palpable among the locals, with one questioning, “If we vote NDC and they don’t develop this area, it is no news; but to vote the NPP and suffer such neglect is unfair for an area said to be a municipality, what is the evidence?”
The Ashanti Region, a stronghold for the NPP, plays a pivotal role in the party’s electoral strategy, aiming to secure significant votes to maintain political dominance.
Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia, the 2024 NPP flagbearer, recently concluded a successful three-day campaign tour in the region, underscoring its importance in the upcoming elections.
Bawumia’s visit follows his victory in the NPP flagbearership race last year, where he triumphed over contenders including Kennedy Agyapong.
