Lawyer Gary Nimako, the head of legal affairs for the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), has refuted claims that Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng was urged to resign from his position several months ago.

The allegation, initially made by lawyer Martin Kpebu during a live television appearance, has been dismissed by Nimako as false.

During an interview on pro-government Asaase Radio, Nimako emphasized that there is no truth to the claim that President Akufo-Addo or the Jubilee House orchestrated any move to oust Agyebeng from his role.

Nimako stated that if such an allegation had any merit, he would have been informed either by government officials or by Agyebeng himself, with whom he shares a personal relationship.

“I would have been aware of this matter,” Nimako asserted. “Either I would have heard directly from government sources or Kissi himself would have informed me about any suggestion for his resignation. However, no such suggestion has been made.”

Regarding the source of the allegation, Nimako questioned the credibility of Martin Kpebu and emphasized that the public should disregard such claims.

In a separate development, President Akufo-Addo has submitted a petition to the Chief Justice requesting the removal of Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng.

The petition, filed by former Special Prosecutor Martin Amidu, accuses Agyebeng of procurement breaches and abuse of office.

Agyebeng, who succeeded Amidu in 2021, has faced criticism from Amidu over the past three years regarding his leadership style and operational decisions.
