Niki Lauda Cause of Death: What Caused The Lauda Crash?

Austrian Formula One driver and aviation entrepreneur, Niki Lauda, passed away in his sleep on May 20, 2019, at the University Hospital of Zürich.

He was aged 70.

Lauda had been diagnosed with kidney problems and was undergoing a dialysis treatment  when he died

What Caused The Lauda Crash?

In 1976, Lauda was involved in a crash during theGerman Grand Prix event and had sustained life-threatening injuries and burns.

He had been racing at the Nürburgring, when his Ferrari 312T2 burst into flames.

The accident made him lose that year’s title by one point, but the following year, he recorded his second Championship win after his recovery.

Lauda had several car crashes during his career, he battled kidney and lung problems, and even had a number of surgical transplants.

He was not just a road warrior, but a fighter in real life.

Niki Lauda was a non-executive chairman of Mercedes AMG Petronas F1 Team.

Born on February 22, 1949, Vienna, Austria, Lauda won the F1 World Drivers’ Championship on three occasions.

In the history of Formula 1, he is the only driver to win Championships for both Ferrari and McLaren.

Lauda was also an aviation expert who owned three airlines – Lauda Air, Niki and Lauda.

In addition, he served as consultant for Scuderia Ferrari and had managed the Jaguar Formula One racing team for a brief period.
