The athletes hit the street with Placards with the inscription, “Why should we suffer for someone else’s negligence”, “All we wanted to do is compete” and “we are not just alternates but potential medalists”.

The athletes who were involved in this protest were, Ruth Usoro, Favour Ofili, Annette Echihunwoke, Chioma Onyekwere, Glory Patrick, Chidi Okezie, Tima Godbless, Rosemary Chukuma, Yinka Ajayi, and Knowledge Omovoh.

The Athletic Integrity Unit said the athletes concerned had failed to comply with the rules introduced in 2019 requiring those from countries deemed at highest risk of doping (category A) nations to undergo the no-notice out-of-competition test in a 10 month period leading up to the major event. Nigeria was by far the hardest-hit nation, with 10 of 23 entries from Tokyo declared ineligible.
