Chidozie, 26, succumbed to his injuries in April 2024 after his wife, Keaiirra Shavoiyae Chidozie, 28, shot him four times on March 21, 2024, in their residence in Houston.

Following the shooting, Chidozie was rushed to Ben Taub Hospital with gunshot wounds, while his wife, in a state of panic, was found holding their two young children, aged three and two.

Despite efforts to save him, Chidozie remained on life support but eventually succumbed to complications from a severe spinal injury sustained during the incident, passing away 18 days later.

Keaiirra was initially charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon after the shooting, and as of Chidozie’s death, her charges have not been upgraded.

She claimed self-defense, alleging that she shot her husband in fear for her life during the argument when he followed her into their bedroom, although the specifics of the altercation remain unclear.

The argument reportedly escalated from elsewhere in the house to the bedroom, where Keaiirra retrieved a pistol and shot Chidozie multiple times, leaving him fatally wounded on the bedroom floor.

Following the incident, witnesses spotted Keaiirra in a nearby parking lot, frantically seeking help with their children.

Friends of the couple expressed shock over the tragic turn of events, noting they had never observed any violence between them.

Chidozie’s family is now striving to raise $70,000 to repatriate his body to Nigeria for burial, fulfilling his lifelong wish to return to his homeland.

“His passing has left a profound void in the lives of all who knew and loved him,” the family stated. “He was a devoted father, a cherished son, and a dear friend to many.

Chidozie’s kind heart, infectious laughter, and unwavering love for his family will forever be remembered and cherished by all who were fortunate enough to know him.”

Keaiirra, released on bail, is scheduled to appear in court on May 23, 2024. Meanwhile, their children are under the care of other family members.
