Nicola Sturgeon husband arrested: Why has Peter Murrell being arrested?

The husband of former first minister Nicola Sturgeon has been arrested in connection with an investigation into Scottish National Party finances.

After being brought into jail by the police on Wednesday morning, Peter Murrell is currently being questioned.

Peter Murrell and Nicola Sturgeon served as the couple in control of the SNP for over ten years.

Right now, however, Mr. Murrell is the focus of an SNP funding inquiry.

As part of the inquiry, police are also searching a number of residences, including the couple’s cordoned-off South Lanark shire house.

Last month, Mr. Murrell announced his resignation as the party’s chief executive, a position he had held since 1999.

Murrell and Ms. Sturgeon have been married since 2010.

Humza Yousaf took over as first minister last week after Ms. Sturgeon resigned last month.

Police have been present at the Glasgow residence of Mr. Murrell and Ms. Sturgeon as well as the Edinburgh headquarters of the SNP.
