Nicola Heywood passed away on April 6, 2023, after some period of ill health. She was 67 years old. She was a well-known and respected journalist who worked for more than three decades.

Nicola Heywood worked for Wales Today as a sub-editor, reporter, and presenter but was perhaps best known for her 18 years as HTV’s main news presenter.

At HTV (which became ITV Wales), Nicola was the main news reporter for 18 years, presenting features and current affairs programs.

After leaving HTV, Nicola Heywood-Thomas worked with BBC Radio 3 and BBC Wales. Heywood also hosted various national programs for BBC Radio 4 and BBC Radio 5 Live, such as Woman’s Hour and The World Tonight.
Nicola Heywood won several awards for her journalism, including a Bafta Cymru Award for Best Music Programme for her show Not A Bad Voice, about Welsh bass-baritone Geraint Evans. Heywood is survived by her husband, John, and her three children, Tom, Becca, and Alys.
