The Arizona Coyotes had traded Nick Ritchie and defenseman Troy Stecher to the Calgary Flames “in exchange for his brother, Brett Ritchie, and minor-leaguer Connor Mackey.”

It was the first time in the history of the NHL that brothers would be traded directly for each other.

Who Is Nick Ritchie?

Nicholas Ritchie is a Canadian ice hockey player who plays the forward position for the Calgary Flames of the National Hockey League (NHL).

Born on December 5, 1995, in Ontario, Canada, Ritchie grew up in Orangeville, playing with the Toronto Marlboros in the Greater Toronto Hockey League (GTHL) and with the Georgetown Raiders of the Ontario Junior Hockey League’s (OJHL).

As a teen, Ritchie appeared in 68 games, recording 50 goals and 45 assists for the Marlboros.

In 2014, Ritchie was drafted by the Anaheim Ducks as 10th overall in the first round of the NHL Entry Draft.

He was later reassigned to the OHL’s Peterborough Petes, who eventually traded him to the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds.

Ritchie’s career journey has seen him play for the Boston Bruins, the Toronto Maple Leafs, and Arizona Coyotes.

In 2023, Ritchie began playing for the Calgary Flames, after he was traded in exchange for his brother Brett Ritchie.
