Despite being born in Texas, Nex’s family roots ran deeper into the heart of Oklahoma.

Sue Benedict, Nex’s mother, was enrolled in the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma, a testament to the rich indigenous heritage that flowed through their family.

However, despite their mother’s affiliation with the tribe, Nex themselves had no direct connection to the Choctaw Nation.

Instead, they found themselves deeply embedded in the vibrant tapestry of the Cherokee Nation reservation, where they resided with their family in Owasso, Oklahoma.

Owasso, a suburban enclave nestled within the outskirts of Tulsa, served as the backdrop to Nex’s formative years. It was here, within the embrace of the Cherokee Nation reservation, that Nex attended school at Owasso High School.

Yet, tragically, it was also here that Nex’s life was cut short following a devastating incident.

On February 7, 2024, Nex found themselves at the center of a heartbreaking ordeal at their high school.

Battling the scourge of bullying that had plagued them, Nex faced a harrowing encounter in the girls’ restroom, where they were reportedly assaulted by three younger girls.

Despite surviving the altercation, Nex’s life ebbed away, leaving their community grappling with grief and seeking answers.
