New Iraq PM: Will Mohammed Shia al-Sudani Recover Iraq’s Smuggled Funds As Promised?

New Prime Minister of Iraq, Mohammed Shia al-Sudani has announced that one of the most important things for his government is to recover Iraq’s funds that have been smuggled abroad by any means necessary.

During his speech on Tuesday, [November 2, 2022], he shared that his government will “determine its relations with others based on the extent of their cooperation with Iraq to hand over the convicts and recover the smuggled funds.”

When he visited the Commission of Integrity (CoI) where he gave the speech, he said that there will be a call for formative support that does not contradict the jurisdictions and tasks entrusted to it.

To provide all the support needed on the executive and legislative levels and to ratify laws that fight corruption and help in ending this serious scourge,” he said.

He further added that the country is working on improving its ranking in the Corruption Perception Index (CPI) as the country is waging a fateful battle against corruption.
