He rose to prominence for his roles as Richard Alpert in the ABC drama series Lost, Sheriff Alex Romero in the A&E drama series Bates Motel, and Yanko Flores in the Apple TV+ drama series The Morning Show.
Carbonell also appeared in Christopher Nolan’s superhero blockbusters The Dark Knight (2008) and The Dark Knight Rises (2012) as Mayor Anthony Garcia.
Carbonell’s early acting performances featured heavy Hispanic accents, which he imitated so effectively that many thought it was his genuine manner of speaking.

Overcoming this preconception, he worked hard in Hollywood to show his versatility and capacity to take on larger roles. Carbonell made his screenwriting debut in 2000 when he played Enrique Suarez in the comic picture Attention Shoppers, which was also his first film as a writer.
