Ncuti Gatwa has been cast as the next Doctor Who on BBC. Ncuti Gatwa’s casting marks the first time a Black person has been cast in the show’s central role on a full-time basis.

Gatwa, 29, is best known for his work in the Netflix series Sex Education and is also one of the youngest Doctors to be cast.
“I’m at a loss for words to express how I’m feeling. A mix of feeling deeply honoured, overjoyed, and, of course, a little scared, “According to a press release issued by Gatwa. “I may only have one heart, unlike the Doctor, but I’m giving it all to this show.”

Gatwa grew up in Scotland after being born in Rwanda. He began his professional acting career eight years ago after graduating from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, one of the world’s leading performing arts institutions.
He is the 14th actor to play the iconic role, following the departure of Jodie Whittaker, the first woman to do so when she was cast in 2017.
