Ncuti Gatwa is a Scottish-Rwandan actor. He rose to prominence on Netflix as Eric Effiong in the comedy-drama series Sex Education.

Gatwa was born on October 15, 1992, in Nyarugenge, Kigali, Rwanda. Tharcisse Gatwa, a journalist with a PhD in theology from Rwanda’s Karongi District, is his father.

The family later fled Rwanda during the 1994 genocide and settled in Scotland. They were residents of Edinburgh and Dunfermline. Gatwa attended Boroughmuir and Dunfermline High Schools before moving to Glasgow to study at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, where he graduated with a BA in Acting in 2013.

Gatwa was accepted into the Dundee Repertory Theatre acting graduation scheme after graduating, and he appeared in several productions, including David Greig’s Victoria.

Ncuti Gatwa has appeared in two mini-series in addition to Sex Education. In Stonemouth, he played Dougie, and he was an extra in Bob Servant. In 2019, he portrayed Timidius in Horrible Histories: The Movie. According to IMDb, Ncuti appeared in Last Letter from Your Lover in 2021, alongside Joe Alwyn and Felicity Jones.
