Nayyara Noor Cause of Death

Nayyara Noor, a Pakistani playback singer and one of the subcontinent’s most popular singers, died on August 20, 2022, at the age of 71, in Karachi after a brief illness.

She was well-known for her live ghazal singing performances on Pakistani TV shows and in concert halls across the country.

Nayyara Noor is survived by her husband Shehryar Zaidi and their two children Jaffer Zaid and Naad-e-Ali Barkha.

In a statement, Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed his grief and said Noor’s death would cause “irreparable damage” to the music world.

“Be it a ghazal or a song, whatever Nayyara Noor sang she sang it with perfection. The void created by Nayyara Noor’s death will never be filled,” Sharif tweeted.

Nayyara made her public singing debut in Pakistani television serials in 1971, followed by films such as Gharana (1973) and Tansen (1974).

She will be remembered for her renditions of work by Pakistan’s famous revolutionary poet Faiz Ahmed Faiz – music released in a 1976 compilation called Nayyara Sings Faiz – in a versatile career full of iconic songs.
