Peter Navarro is the second Trump advisor to be detained after refusing to comply with a formal summons issued by the congressional committee investigating the attack.
Mr Navarro, 72, accused prosecutors and the FBI of misconduct in court. His indictment comes only a week before the committee’s televised hearings on its investigation begin.
More than 1,000 witnesses have been interviewed by the US House of Representatives panel, which is made up of seven Democrats and two Republicans.

Mr Navarro may face up to two years in prison or a fine. Mr Navarro claims that his communications with the former president were shielded by the legal notion of executive privilege.
He stated that he would represent himself since he did not want to spend hundreds of thousands of dollars on legal assistance.
Steve Bannon, former President Donald Trump’s senior strategist, was charged with contempt of Congress in November 2021 after he, too, refused a subpoena.
