Nate Oats is currently the head basketball coach at the University of Alabama. Prior to Alabama he was the head coach at the University at Buffalo.

During his time at the University at Buffalo, Oats led the Buffalo Bulls to a 28-3 record throughout the 2018-19 regular season and was voted the 2019 MAC Coach of the Year.

Oats signed a contract extension with the University of Buffalo on March 14, 2019, to remain head basketball coach until the 2024 season.

Nate Oats played collegiate basketball at NCCAA Division II/NCAA Division III Maranatha Baptist University. He was an all-conference performer and Crusader captain while receiving a bachelor’s degree in math education.

He later earned a Master of Science in kinesiology and exercise science from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He later worked as an assistant men’s basketball coach at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, a Division III school. Oats left Wisconsin-Whitewater after the 2002 season to become the head basketball coach and teacher at Romulus High School near Detroit.
