Luis Nani and his wife Daniela Martins have a son together, Lucas. Luís Carlos Almeida da Cunha ComM has not revealed enough identifying information regarding his son.

On 10 August 2005, Nani made his Sporting CP debut, coming on as a substitute for Custódio in the 73rd minute in a 1–0 home defeat to Udinese in their third-round qualifier in the UEFA Champions League.

Before the 2007–08 season, Nani’s performances attracted the attention of English club Manchester United, who secured his services in July 2007.

Nani gained first-team status almost immediately and won four Premier League titles and the 2007–08 UEFA Champions League, along with the 2008 FIFA Club World Cup, two League Cups, and three Community Shields.
Nani made his Portugal international debut in 2006, scoring his first goal soon after and establishing himself as a key member of the side.
On 24 June 2017, Nani scored the final goal of a 4–0 win over New Zealand in the FIFA Confederations Cup which saw Portugal finish third.
