Dorries caused Rishi Sunak a tremendous problem by calling a by-election, claiming that it was time for someone else to represent the area.
Dorries was conspicuously absent from the honors list, apparently withdrawn to prevent a Commons by-election when she was transferred to the House of Lords.

Dorries announced her resignation on Twitter, writing:
“I have today informed the chief whip that I am standing down as the MP for Mid Bedfordshire, with immediate effect.
“It has been an honour to serve as the MP for such a wonderful constituency but it is now time for someone younger to take the reins.”
She later edited her tweet and replaced the words “someone younger” with “another”.
