Shangela, a prominent figure in the drag community who gained recognition on RuPaul’s Drag Race, is facing serious allegations of sexual assault.

According to a report by Rolling Stone, four individuals have come forward, accusing Shangela, also known as Darius Jeremy Pierce, of either sexually assaulting them or attempting sexual advances when they were incapacitated and unable to give consent.
A fifth person has alleged an attempted anal penetration despite rejecting advances.
Shangela, through his attorney, vehemently denied the allegations, asserting that he has never engaged in nonconsensual sexual activity.
Attorney Andrew Brettler refuted the claims, citing a lack of evidence and reliable witness testimony to support the accusations.
The allegations stem from incidents spanning a 16-month investigation, with Rolling Stone documenting multiple independent accounts of coercive and abusive behavior over several years.

The accusers, aged between 18 and 23 at the time of the alleged incidents, reported encounters with Shangela between 2012 and 2018 in various locations, including Louisiana, Texas, California, and the UK.
These encounters occurred during Shangela’s rise to fame on RuPaul’s Drag Race and RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars.
It is important to note that Rolling Stone’s investigation underscores that the allegations do not implicate Drag Race or RuPaul.
Shangela has acknowledged meeting four of the accusers on the dates mentioned in their allegations but stated that he does not recall the fifth accuser.
All five accusers expressed initial hesitation in coming forward but ultimately decided to do so, citing a desire for accountability and to address the allegations amidst an increasingly hostile political climate towards the LGBTQ+ community, particularly in conservative states.
