Kentucky senator, Mitch McConnell, has been alleged to have invested about $13 million of Kentucky teachers’ retirement funds into Russia’s Sberbank. Mitch McConnell is having many backlashes after the news broke out although detailed information is not out yet.

Sberbank is a Russian financial services company and state-owned bank that operates in many European countries and has its headquarters in Moscow. Many political leaders all over the world have invested funds into such financial institutions are not into that which is run by the countries.

Mitch McConnell and other top officials have advocated for Putin crony Oleg Deripaska’s exemption from sanctions. As of now, Sberbank has pulled out of Europe after facing failure as a result of sanctions.
Mitch McConnell has been serving as the United States senator from Kentucky since 1985 and he is also serving as Senate Minority Leader. Mitch McConnell formerly served as Senate Majority Leader from 2015 to 2021 and he also served as Senate Majority Whip from 2013 to 2017.
