American professional softball player Monica Abbott, born July 28, 1985, is now retired. Prior to beginning a career in the NPF and the Japan Softball League, Abbott was an All-American pitcher for the Tennessee Lady Volunteers in college. She began competing for Team USA in international competition in 2005, helping the national softball team capture a silver medal at the 2008 and 2020 Summer Olympics.

In terms of victories, strikeouts, shutouts, and innings pitched, Abbott is the NCAA Division I leader.
Abbott was highly sought after by several universities, but she ultimately chose the University of Tennessee because of how they treated their female athletes. Abbott, a communications major, threw for the Lady Volunteers softball team at the University of Tennessee from 2004 to 2007.

The NCAA Division I leader in victories (189), shutouts (112), strikeouts (2,440), single-season strikeouts (724) and innings pitched is Abbott, though. She established the mark for the most strikeouts in a Division I softball season during her senior year of college.
