Molly Meldrum’s father, Robert Meldrum (born April 7th, 1907 and died in 1978), was a farmer from Caniambo, 25 kilometres from Shepparton.

Molly Meldrum’s father, Robert later served as an army sergeant in World War II with the AIF in Port Moresby. His mother was Isobel Elizabeth Geer (1912-1969) from Orbost.
Molly Meldrum’s parents got married on August 17th, 1940, two months after Robert’s enlistment.

Ian Alexander “Molly” Meldrum AM was born on January 29, 1943, in Orbost, Australia. Meldrum was a talent coordinator, interviewer, and music news presenter on the former music program Countdown (1974-1987), and is well-known for his signature Stetson hat, which he has frequently worn in public since the 1980s.
Molly Meldrum has received recognition for his contributions, including an Australian Recording Industry Association (ARIA) Award for Special Achievement in 1993 and the “Ted Albert Award” in 1994 at the Australasian Performing Right Association (APRA) Awards.
In 2014, Molly Meldrum and his TV show, Countdown were inducted into the ARIA Hall of Fame, making him the first non-artist to receive this accolade.
