George W. Romney, a name well-known in political circles, was a key figure in shaping the young Mitt Romney’s worldview. Born on July 8, 1907, in Colonia Dublán, Mexico, George Romney was the son of American parents who had moved to Mexico as part of a Mormon colony. His family later fled Mexico during the Mexican Revolution and resettled in the United States.

George Romney’s early life experiences instilled in him a sense of resilience and determination. He went on to have a successful career in business and politics. In 1948, he became the President and Chairman of American Motors Corporation (AMC), an American automobile company. During his tenure, he gained recognition for turning around the struggling company and making it competitive in the automotive industry.

But George Romney’s influence extended beyond the business world. He entered the realm of politics, serving as the Governor of Michigan from 1963 to 1969. His tenure was marked by a commitment to civil rights and his advocacy for progressive policies. George Romney’s dedication to his principles made a lasting impression on his son, Mitt Romney, who would later follow in his father’s political footsteps.

Lenore Romney, born Lenore LaFount on November 9, 1908, was a force in her own right. An accomplished musician and singer, she attended the University of Utah and later studied at the Juilliard School of Music in New York City. Her passion for the arts and her commitment to education were values she instilled in her children.

Lenore Romney was also a trailblazer in her own political career. In 1970, she became the Republican nominee for the U.S. Senate from Michigan, making her one of the first women to run for the U.S. Senate from her state. Although she didn’t win the election, her candidacy marked an important step forward for women in American politics.

As for Mitt Romney, he was raised in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, by parents who encouraged him to pursue his dreams and to make a positive impact on the world. He inherited his father’s commitment to public service and his mother’s love for education and the arts.
