Missing Merced Family Found Dead After kidnapping

Four members of a California family, including a baby, were discovered dead two days after authorities said they were kidnapped at gunpoint, sparking a manhunt.

Since Monday, October 4, 2022, authorities have been looking for 8-month-old Aroohi Dheri, her mother Jasleen Kaur, 27, her father Jasdeep Singh, 36, and the baby’s uncle Amandeep Singh, 39.

Surveillance video taken outside the family’s business in Merced, a town of nearly 90,000 people east of San Jose, showed them being led out and driven away by an armed man.

Officers were called to an “extremely rural farm area” around 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, October 5, 2022, by a farmhand who discovered the victims’ bodies while working, according to Warnke.

Deputies and detectives arrived at the scene and discovered the victims’ bodies “relatively close together,” he said.

Police have detained a man they believe is a person of interest in the case. The man is speaking with authorities, and a motive is unknown at this time, according to the sheriff.
