Her sons Ben and Ransom Weaver confirmed their mother’s passing due to “a severe health problem” on her website, which showcased her poetry collection as well as work in activism for LGBTQ+ and workers’ rights.

Born on September 12, 1946, Pratt helped to found WomanWrites, a Southeastern lesbian writers conference.

She joined Feminary, a southern feminist literary collective located in Chapel Hill and Durham, North Carolina, in 1978 while attending the University of North Carolina.

Pratt wrote a lot about race, class, gender, and sexual philosophy.

Along with lesbian writers Chrystos and Audre Lorde, she received a 1991 Hellman/Hammett award from the Fund for Free Expression to writers “who have been victimized by political persecution”.

Pratt, Chrystos, and Lorde were chosen because of their experience as “a target of right-wing and fundamentalist forces during the recent attacks on the National Endowment for the Arts.”

Pratt was the widow of author-activist Leslie Feinberg, who died in November 2014 at age 65.

Pratt is survived by two sons Ben and Ransom Weaver, whom she had by a previous heterosexual marriage to poet Marvin E. Weaver II, which ended in divorce in Fayetteville, North Carolina, in 1975.
