Irina Mikhailovna Virganskaya is the daughter of Mikhail Sergeyevich Gorbachev, a Russian and Soviet politician who served as the last leader of the Soviet Union and his wife Raisa Gorbacheva.

Irina was born on 6 January 1957 and her father sent her [his only child], to a local school in Stavropol rather than to a school set aside for the children of party elites
She was educated at the Académie russe de l’économie nationale and the Pirogov Russian National Research Medical University.

Irina has been married twice. Firstly, to Anatoliy Virganskiy (m. 1978–1993) and secondly to Andrey Trukhachyov (m.2006). She has two children; Anastasia Virganskaya and Ksenia Virganskaya.

Irina is in the news because her father has passed away. Her father died at the Central Clinical Hospital in Moscow on 30 August 2022, at the age of 91.
He died after a “severe and prolonged illness,” according to the hospital, having been under the continuous supervision of doctors since the beginning of 2020.
Her father was the longest-lived ruler of Russia in history, surpassing Alexander Kerensky and the nominal leader of the USSR Vasily Kuznetsov, who both lived to be 89 years old.
