Mike Leach was a college football coach in the United States who was the head coach at Mississippi State University from 2020 until his death in 2022.

Mike Leach earned a bachelor’s degree in American studies in 1983. Leach received his Juris Doctorate from Pepperdine University School of Law in Malibu, California, in 1986.

He is also a notable graduate of the United States Sports Academy in Daphne, Alabama, where he received a Master of Sports Science in sports coaching in 1988.

Mike Leach was a two-time national coach of the year, a three-time conference coach of the year, and the architect of the NCAA’s record-breaking air raid offense.

Mike Leach was known for creating explosive offenses by directing passing-oriented teams in the air raid offense, a spread offense system. He broke a slew of school and NCAA records.

Leach had a 158-107 overall record in 21 seasons, including ten at Texas Tech, eight at Washington State, and three at Mississippi State.

Mike Leach died Monday December 12, 2022, night as a result of complications from a heart condition. He was 61.
