Mike Gregory’s cause of death was revealed in the legend’s obituary on 19 April 2022′, which stated that he had bravely fought dementia for the last five years.

Gregory was a top-ranked player from the mid-1980s to the early 1990s, having been seeded in the top four at the World Championships seven times although never winning the World title

His breakthrough came when he defeated John Lowe in the semi-finals of the 1983 British Open, where he finished runner-up to Eric Bristow. In the final of that year’s World Masters competition, Bristow defeated him once more. In 1984, he made his World Championship debut and advanced to the quarter-finals, when he was defeated by Jocky Wilson 0–5.

Gregory is best known for his match against Phil Taylor in the 1992 World Championship, which he lost in one of the greatest World finals in which ‘The Quiet Man of Darts’ missed six match darts to win.
