López, hailing from Pesca, Boyacá, has been busy with his preparations for the upcoming Giro d’Italia, where he aims to make a strong showing. His previous performances in the race have been commendable, with a third-place finish in 2018 and a seventh-place finish in 2019. Unfortunately, in 2020, he had to withdraw from the competition.
In the lead-up to the Corsa Rosa, López is putting in the hard work in Teide, Tenerife, Spain. With only a few weeks left until the race kicks off, fans have high expectations for his performance. Miguel Ángel López has established himself as one of Colombia’s most consistent cyclists, consistently ranking among the top 10 riders in major races.

This season has been a smooth journey for López, with successful appearances in several Spanish races. He secured a podium finish at the Vuelta Andalucía, claiming third place behind Wout Poels and Christian Rodríguez. He then competed in Strade Bianche and the Tirreno-Adriatico, where he finished 21st, providing valuable race experience and a chance to measure himself against rivals he’ll encounter in the Giro d’Italia.
In the midst of his preparations and races, López has also enjoyed quality family time. He has been spending time with his loved ones, focusing on training, and continuing his journey with Team Astana, which he has been part of since 2015.
López’s path has not been without its challenges, including a contract dispute with Team Movistar in Spain. However, he has been able to put those issues behind him and concentrate on his cycling career and family life. In the latter part of 2021, he kept a low profile in interviews, perhaps waiting for the dust to settle after the Movistar controversy.
Now, with a fresh mindset and new goals, López spoke with ADN Cycling to share the delightful news that he and his partner are expecting their second child. The couple anticipates their son’s arrival in mid-July or early August, adding another exciting chapter to the cyclist’s journey both on and off the bike.
