Michelle Wie West Parents: Meet Byung-wook Wie, Bo Wie

Michelle Wie West is a professional golfer from the United States. She is the only child of South Korean immigrants who arrived in the United States in the 1980s.

Byung-Wook Wie, her father, is a former professor of travel industry management at the University of Hawaii. Bo, her mother, won the South Korean women’s amateur golf championship in 1985 and competed in the Miss Korea beauty pageant.

Her paternal grandfather, Sang-Kyu Wie, was an emeritus professor at Seoul National University and lived in Jangheung, Jeollanam-do. Wie was born with dual citizenship in both South Korea and the United States. In February 2013, she renounced her South Korean citizenship.

Michelle Wie West began playing golf at a very early age and quickly gained attention for her exceptional skills. At the age of 10, she became the youngest player to qualify for the US Women’s Amateur Public Links Championship.

Throughout her career, Wie West has achieved notable successes. In 2014, she won the US Women’s Open, which is one of the major championships in women’s golf. She has represented the United States in numerous international competitions, including the Solheim Cup, which is a prestigious team event between Europe and the United States.
